Dharma

Meaning; When ever Dharma gets in trouble or meaningless, I am compelled to take birth or incarnate on this earth to re-estabilish Dharma, to protect saints and sages, to destroy evil.

There are ten instances of incarnations, Avatars of Shri Vishnu.

One such incarnation was Narasimha Swami- Half Lion Half Human, Ferocious form of Shri Vishnu.

The story starts with a Demon king named Hiranyakashipu, who tries to attain magical powers from Brahma after a long penance, the boon he asks is:

I should not be killed by GOD, HUMAN, DEMON, ANIMAL

I should not be killed on Earth or Space

I should not be killed in Fire or Water

I should not be killed during Day or Night

I should not be killed outside or Inside

I should not be killed by any other Animate or Inanimate weapon.

Lord Brahma is pleased with his penance and grants the boon.

Hiranyakashipu, hated the gods and most especially Vishnu, the followers of whom he began to torture. Hiranyakashipu's son, Prahlada, was a very devoted follower of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu fails to convince his son to join him against Vishnu, and tries to kill Prahlada, but Prahlada was protected by Vishnu.

When asked, Prahlada refuses to acknowledge his father as the supreme lord of the universe (though he had used his boon to conquer the entire world) instead he claimes that Vishnu was omnipresent.

After lot of techniques Hiranyakashipu is unable to change his son's faith in Lord Vishnu.

Hiranyakashipu asks Prahlad: Is your GOD in this wall, door, floor, ceiling.

Prahlad: He is present everywhere, he is omnipresent.

Hiranyakashipu: I am GOD,

Prahlad: No you are not,

Hiranyakashipu: Is he in this pillar,

Prahlad: Yes he is,

Hiranyakashipu: Kicks the Pillar,

Out comes Narashima Swami in his full glory and manifestation, Half Lion Half Human, during the twilight ( Neither day nor night), he places him on his thighs between Earth and Space on the threshold of the entrance to a courtyard (neither inside nor outside) and using his nails (neither animate nor inanimate) as weapons he tears apart Hiranyakashipu, there by releasing the land from his evil shadow.

This story is repeated many many times in a miniature version on this earth, but every time we fail to acknowledge the presence of the omnipresent energy, History has recorded many such fools who think they are powerful, what goes up is bound to come down, but how it will land depends on the individual, the landing could be a smooth one or it could be an ugly thud.

The root cause of these Hiranyakashipu's who keep raising their ugly heads is Greed, Ignorance and above all Insecurity.

Knowledge and humility is the Key :-)

A good Story

A good story...

An old man lived alone in a village. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, who would have helped him, was in prison.

The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:Dear Son, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would beover. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren't in prison.

Love,

Dad

Shortly, the old man received this telegram:

"For Heaven's sake, Dad,don't dig up the garden!! That's where I buried the GUNS!!"

At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local policeOfficers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns.

Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened and asked him what to do next.

His son's reply was: "Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad... It's thebest I could do for you from here."

Moral:NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, IF YOU HAVE DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING DEEP FROM YOUR HEART YOU CAN DO IT. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT MATTERS NOT WHERE YOU ARE OR WHERE THE PERSON IS.

Have a nice day

Take care of your loved ones always.

The 90-10 Principle

Know the 90-10 principle.

Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.
The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems andheartache.

We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!! Read the attachment

Discover the 90/10 Principle.

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

Author: Stephen Covey
What is this principle?

10% of life is made up of what happens to you.
90% of life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean?
It means we really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.

We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.
We have no control over this 10%.

The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.
How? ---- By your reaction.
YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example.
You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.
What happens next will be determined by how you react.
You curse.
You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows.

You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus.

Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? ---- Because of how you reacted in the morning.

Why did you have a bad day?
A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?

The answer is “D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.
Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.
Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why?
Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

React properly and it will not ruin your day.

Remember the 90/10 principle.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and
heartache.

We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

Enjoy….

The Real Sadhu- Ego and God

ॐ नमः शिवाय!

Instead of rewriting everything which already had been written and said many many times by many great saints, here is a discourse from Shri Swami Sivananda ji on the real sadhu (Saint) Ego and God.

"If you find mercy and humility in a person, then alone can you know that he is a Sadhu.
His heart will melt at the suffering of others.
Man has a sin-hardened heart.
When it begins to melt.
A Sadhu need not deliver lectures on the Panchadasi.

He need not necessarily be able to deliver eloquent discourses on the Gita (Discourse by Shri Krishna given to Arjun in the battle ground of Krukshetra-Sacred scripture of Hindus or Sanatana Dharma).

He may not be able to comment for three hours on a single verse of the Brahma Sutra, but a sweet aroma will always be emanating from him. This will attract you to him. It will give you peace and inner bliss when you approach him. All your worry and anxiety will disappear as you approach him. His very look will elevate you. His words will inspire you and engrave themselves on the tablet of your heart. Your nature will be transformed by his very look. You will turn a new page in your life. Such will be his power! Such is the glory of true mercy and humility!"
People have a hard heart, a heart harder than granite, harder than diamond, on account of wrong actions done life after life. This heart should melt. Only then can they have Self-realization. Note well that there is no short-cut to Self-realization. A man without mercy, love and humility cannot realize the Self. You must understand this clearly. You must engrave these words in your heart. You must write them in bold letters on placards and place them in your rooms and offices. The Shri cannot manifest Himself in a sin-hardened heart. It must melt like butter before He can reveal Himself."This melting is done by Kirtan and untiring selfless service rendered with the feeling that all are forms of Shri Narayana. Then you will develop a feeling of oneness with all. Listening to the scriptures and contemplation will be of no avail if there is no purification of the heart.

Vedantic Sadhana at this immature stage will only fatten your egoism and harden it. The bonds of worldliness will grow tighter and the veil of ignorance become thicker."Without purifying the heart no progress in Sadhana is possible. Therefore, practise Japa, sing Kirtan, do untiring selfless service. Be generous. Give, give, give. Kill vanity. Worldly people have their own vanity, but much harder is the egoism of a Sadhu. He thinks that he is superior to a householder because he knows the Gita by heart and he can deliver thrilling lectures for weeks on end on each verse of the Upanishads. This spiritual pride is extremely difficult to eradicate."Maya assumes many different forms.

The ego assumes various shapes. Just as water takes on the form of the vessel into which it is poured, so also the ego adjusts itself to all circumstances and persists in its work.

"You renounce the world so that you can get rid of the vanity of wealth and material desires. Now you acquire another vanity--the vanity of renunciation. In order to crush the ego you do scavenging, though you are highly educated. Now the ego assumes the subtle form of the vanity of service. You bow to all, you prostrate to all, in order to develop humility. This indefatigable ego comes up there also--you now have the most dangerous vanity of humility. You feel inwardly that you are humbler than others. This ego is your terrible enemy. It wages guerrilla warfare with you. Beware! Beware! Beware!".

If you are sincere you can eradicate this ego through Japa, Kirtan and selfless service. Sincere people are very rare in this world. You can count them on your finger-tips. Sincerity--it is a very rare virtue! It is a combination of several virtues--of truthfulness, straight-forwardness, simplicity, absence of vanity, courage, fearlessness, tenacity of purpose, love and humility. All these go to form sincerity. A sincere man is immediately respected and trusted by all. Only if you have this virtue will there be rapid spiritual progress. Only then will you realize the fullest benefits of the Japa, Kirtan and meditation that you practise daily.

"Introspect and find out how you are progressing in the cultivation of these divine virtues. You are not practising introspection regularly. You have not the strength of mind or the power of discrimination to introspect. You think that you are very much advanced, but when a test comes you fail miserably. It is because there has been no real progress, no real spiritual advancement. It is vanity that makes you think that you are very advanced."

Apply this acid test on yourself: does your heart melt at the suffering of others? Has charity and generosity become your very nature? Your money belongs to the Lord. You have no business to keep more than you need. How can you accumulate wealth when your God in the form of a poor man is starving? How can you take food four times a day when the beggar--Lord Narayana--is starving outside the door? These are the tests of spiritual progress.

"Do you run to a poor man walking along the street and offer him food? Do you rush to the aid of a sick or injured man lying on the roadside and ask, 'My Lord, in what way may I serve thee?' If you do so, then you are really advancing on the spiritual path. You will soon develop cosmic love, which is the threshold of liberation."

If you really want God, then all these things must be done. You should have mercy. You should feel that you are only a trustee of your money; you are like a gatekeeper. God has given you money. You should share it with others. Purchase blankets in winter and distribute them to the poor lying on the roadside. What a joy you feel! The man who has not shared what he has with others has a poor heart indeed, though he may be a millionaire. Even the man who has nothing to eat is the richest man in the world if he has a large heart, if he shares what he has with others.

"The real Sadhu is one who has nothing to call his own except a large, magnanimous heart--not one who can skillfully argue about the existence of God or the falsehood of creation, who is an expert in intellectual acrobatics, who is proficient in the coining and use of a few phrases. You can discover him on the station platform. He will quarrel for half an hour with a porter for the sake of two annas!"

(Annas = 16 annas make One Indian Rupee)

If you are Ramprasad, feel that all are Ramprasad. One Divine Consciousness pervades all. It sees through all, It works through all. All ears are yours. Feel as such. What an expansion of heart you experience! All barriers are now broken down. Everywhere you behold the one Lord, one Krishna, the God who is both immanent and transcendent.

"The aspirant should be very careful. Not even an angry look or the slightest trace of irritability should arise in his heart. He should possess a sweet heart and a sweet tongue."

"May God bless you all with health, long life, peace, prosperity and eternal bliss!"
-----------------------------------------------------

"If you take one step towards God, He takes ten steps towards you." - Swami Sivananda

-------------------------------------------------------
I can only add to this great teachings is, to reach GOD one has to be like GOD, all the time and always and yet remain anonymous.

God did come!

ॐ नमः शिवाय!

There was a very big Dam and was holding lot of water in a man made lake, after many peaceful years, one day a villager detects a crack on the Dam, for a moment his heart stops, he runs to the village head to inform about this crack.

The village along with all his men inspect the crack on the Dam and decide to call the govt. to get this rectified, the engineers arrive and to their utter disappointment it is found that the crack can not be repaired, so they raise a danger alarm and they request the Govt to evacuate all the villages with in the close proximity of the Dam, every villager leaves very early and then it is time for the Dam to rupture, water starts flowing in a huge stream.

Meanwhile the rescue team detect that a man is still living in his home.

The rescue team ask the man to get out, but the Man is adamant, no my GOD will save me, he will not let me down.

The rescue team leaves the scene keeping the condition of Dam in mind, the water now is flowing in the villages like a river and the man's house is effected.

Now the Rescue team in their last visit call out for the man, who is in his second floor.

The man: No my GOD will save me.

The rescue team leaves again, the water is higher now and the second floor is under water,

The Rescue team in a ferry reach this man's house and call him to get in the ferry.

The Man: No my God......................!

The Rescue team leaves and is replaced by the Army.

The water has submerged almost all the villages and the Man is on the roof top.

The Army in a Helicopter; Hey common we will take you up, catch this harness.

The Man: No my God will come..................

The Army leaves and the Dam breaks submerging everything.

The man is standing in a reception , appears like the abode of GOD.

GOD: There you are, How are you?

Man: I will not speak to you, you let me drown, I called you so many times and you did not come.

GOD: I did come, the people in Rescue team, The Ferry, The Helicopter, all were my men, but you did not come.

Moral: God is Omnipresent and everywhere.

I heard this story in Net GSC Chandanagar, Hyderabad, India, narrated by a indian software professional settled in US in the year 1999-2000.

Fundamentals of Jyotisha ( Part IV)

ॐ श्री गुरावे नमः !
ॐ नमः शिवाय!

GRAHA/PLANETS characteristics and description continued......Apart from what we have discussed earlier about the Strength of Graha, there is a very beautiful system in Jyotisha called Shad bal or Shad bala (Six Strengths), it estimates and predicts the strength of Graha during its Transit and it also tells us the strength of Graha as a quantity, in addition to Shad bala there are few other related terms like Astakavarga bala, Ishta phala and kshta phala etc.

Shadbala is a method to evaluate the strength of Graha/Planets by calculating the points a Graha/Planet would get based on its position, direction, motion, time, and aspect, Naisargika (Natural strength) bala is common for all the tables so it is not very important, there are many variations for calculation of Shadbala, Table No 39 and 40 list these values in Virupas to call a Graha Strong, the values can be represented in Rupas and percentage.

Shadbala comprises of various types of strengths which are listed with all their
further classifications in the Table no 41.

Astakavarga meaning eight divisions it is a system of analyzing a chart with respect to a group of 8 reference points and it tells us the benefic positions of Lagna and seven planets with respect to each other, so using this system we can analyze the Natal and the Transit chart, transit chart is more important for day to day predictions.

The individual Ashtakavarga chart is known as the Bhinnashtakavarga, and the combined effect given in one chart is known as Sarvashtakavarga chart.

The total value of any house for any Graha/planet is = 8,
If Benefic points = x,
8-x = Malefic points.
7 Graha/planets x 8 points = 56

The house that gets less than 28 benefic points will give less result as indicated by that house. Similarly if any house contributes more than 28 points then the results denoted by that house will be greater, 28 is 50% of 56.

The individual points of each house if it is less than 4 the phala will not be favorable, a value of 4 is average phala and points above 4 are very favorable. The total is always 337.

The Rasis/signs which carry 7 or 8 points are the peak periods of the native in that particular sphere of his/her life and the houses with 5 or 6 points are periods with good results, at the same time Rasis/signs with values 0, 1 or 2 would give most unfavorable results, the above chart shows maximum points for two houses Aries and Scorpio and the lord of both these signs is Mars and these are 6th and 11th signs from Lagna, representing, Job, Enemies, disease, gain in everything, friends and elders as the prominent areas of his/her life, 7th and 8th house also carry good points, meaning better results in the areas represented by these two signs also.

Ishta and Kshta phala: Very simple translation of these two terms into English would be "results I like", and "results painful to me", to get these values first calculate the Uchch Rasmi and Chesht rasmi of Graha, then using these two calculate the subha rasmis (Auspicious) and asubha (Inauspicious) rasmis, further use these two and calculate the Ishta and Kshta phala.

Each Varga placement contributes a strength according to the placement in the planet's sign. Table No 43 lists the strength of each Graha as per their placement.

If Subhankas (Auspicious) is deducted from 60, Asubhanka (Inauspicious points) will emerge and in other Vargas these values are halved.

A Graha is considered auspicious in the first four of the said places, In the fifth place it is neutral, i.e. neither good nor bad and in the other two places it is inauspicious.
A typical Table showing Shad bala in virupas, in rupas, in percentage, Ishta and Kshta Phala is listed in the table no 44.

Conclusion: There are many versions of discussions on this particular topic every Astrologer had tried to peel a new skin from this fruit, but the most important thing is, it gives a direct methodology to label a Graha Strong, Very Strong, Weak, or Very Weak, I personally feel there is no need to go into details and dissect them to see if they give you repeatable results like a true physical scientist, these values are like indicators showing where exactly the Graha's are standing and with how many points each.

As the Graha/Planets are always on the move, only Saturn and Jupiter take little more time to than other Grahas, other wise in a day there always is a possibility for worst and the best time point.

Minor Lines of the Palm

ॐ श्री गुरावे नमः !
ॐ नमः शिवाय!

I have already dealt with the six Major lines of the palm, The Line of Fate, The line of Head, The line of Heart, The line of Life, The line of Health of Life and The line of Apollo, let us deal with the minor lines of the palm, which are not common lines present in every hand, few hands have very prominent minor lines, and few do not have these lines at all.

Minor lines of the palm: Line of Intuition, Girdle of Venus, Influence lines, Worry lines, Line of Marriage or Affection, Stress lines, Travel line, Rascettes,Via Lascivia, Line of Mars.

Line of Intuition: Fig P8A1 & P8B6, Look for this line on the percussion side of the palm, starting from the base of the palm to the little finger, the presence of this line is a indication that the Intuition of the person is active or awakened, because Intuition (Sixth sense as it is called) is a compulsory item that comes with this human body, other signs which enhance the Intuitive abilities are a whorl in the Ring finger third phalange, a mystic cross below the Saturn Finger and Ring finger, between the Heart line and the Line of intelligence, well formed mount of Luna or Moon.

Girdle of Venus: Fig P8A2, I am sorry I could not understand how someone called it Girdle of Venus, it is a arc between Little finger and Saturn finger, or Ring finger and Saturn finger or may be Index finger, I am not aware of its function or prominence and also it has nothing to do with Venus and love, only possibility is this line could be a secondary heart line, so it is in a way enhanced craving for love or affection, better not to have this.;-)

Influence Lines: Fig P8A3 & P8B5, Fine parallel lines emerging from the mount of Venus or Mount of Luna and flow towards the major lines of the palm, in a way to influence them in the life of the native, these lines are indication of influence of the family members on the native, each line indicates a member and if it cuts different major lines, it means they influence that sphere of the natives life in a positive or negative way, similar lines from teh mount of luna are influence from external circles.

Worry lines: Fig P8A4, Parallel vertical lines in the mount of Venus, more lines indicate more worries and absence of lines indicate lack of emotions.

Line of Marriage or Affection or Union: Fig P8A5, Small line on the percussion side of the palm, just below the little finger, here it is little tricky, because in a country like India where two opposite sex can only unite through marriage, then these lines should be called lines of marriage, and each line would indicate one marriage, and the health of that line directly indicates the health of marriage, but like in west, union of opposite sex is not necessarily through formal marriage, in that case this line should be called as line of affection or union.

The length of the line is normally up to 1 cm, a healthy line is a 1 cm horizontal line ending bluntly without any change in thickness and color of the line, with out any cuts or gaps, very fine hair like vertical lines on top of each marriage line indicate the number of children, thick straight lines indicate male and thin slant lines indicate females, but this area is not very clear in many hands and might not be visible to a naked eye, few hands I have seen have very clear patterns and the no of children living and dead match perfectly with the pattern, because of lack of clarity of this area, the scope of wrong prediction is very huge.

If the line of Marriage droops down towards the base of palm and ends somewhere below, little finger, Ring finger, Middle finger or Index finger or right into the mount of Venus indicate end of that marriage or union due to communications, ego, financial issues, understanding and respect for each other and influence of a family member respectively, if the line turn upward, it is a good sign, and if it bifurcates, it indicates flexibility in the union or more informal union.

The timing of marriage is determined by dividing the distance between the line of heart and the base of little finger in to four divisions, each division is equal to 10 years, the point on the line of heart will be 14 years and the base of the little finger 70 years, then determine the time of marriage or union, multiple healthy lines of marriage or union will indicate multiple partners.
Compatibility between the couple can be determined by looking at the health of the line of marriage.

Stress lines: Fig P8A6 Small vertical lines in the phalanges of the fingers, the upper, middle and lower phalange indicate soul, mind and body resp. the stress lines in these phalanges would indicate stress of the native in that part of his being, most people will have few lines in the lowest phalanges in almost all fingers, but few people have stress lines in the middle phalanges also, they are very stressed individuals, and people in deep perils have stress lines in almost all phalanges, they need a long vacation, any hand without any stress lines is rare.

Travel Lines: Fig P8B1, Small or long lines from the base of the palm on the percussion side of the palm and travelling towards the Mount of Jupiter or Index finger indicate the Travel the native had taken or will take in future, but I am not sure about this line either, I have seen only small lines from the percussion side reaching up to the middle of the palm, and these natives have traveled more than 15000 miles in one go.

So if there are few lines in this area you will travel or you have already traveled.:-)
Rascette: Fig P8B2, others names for Rascette are Bracelet or luck line, One, two or three single, double or triple plain or interwoven chain like lines on the wrist on the base of the palm are Rascette, these are like index of the life of the native, a plain line in this area would indicate uncomplicated life of the native, and a chained line indicate complex or complicated life due to hassles, a cross in this line would indicate a difficult period, each line indicates around 40 years of life, three lines account for 120 years of life, but this is not the only parameter for life calculation.

The first line on the Rascette if forms a deep curve towards the palm in the hands of women, would suggest possible delivery problems, and in the hands of men, possible delivery problems faced by their mothers during their birth and some believe weakness in reproductive system.
Via Lascivia: Fig P8B3, A horizontal line crossing the mount of Luna and might join the Fate line, as the Latin name suggests it was believed to be associated with Lust, drunkenness and debauchery, but actually this line has to do with spending capacity of a native, A person with this line is like a Natural accounts manager, with just 100$ he could feed many people, and a person with out this line might not be able to fill his of tummy with 100$, just an example.
Line of Mars: Fig P8B4, This line starts form the mount of mars between the Index finger and the Thumb and runs inside the line of Life, this adds to the vitality and life force of the Native, it is also called as sister life line.

There are other small and very minor lines not at all common, like sex line, money line, spirit line. do not worry about them they do not affect your life in any way.

More to follow............................marks and signs.

Meeting the God

ॐ नमः शिवाय!

A person frustrated starts praying in a very secluded places to appease GOD, after 25 long years of penance, GOD appears in the form of Lord Shiva and asks the ascetic why did you remember me, dear!

The person is used to consult his wife for every small or big decisions, so he requests GOD, please wait for a minute I will be back in a moment, I have to ask my wife what exactly she wants.

GOD: Okey Dokey!

Person returns with a long list: Please take this list.

GOD: OK, Please wait for a minute I will be back in a moment, even I have to ask my wife before I promise anything (and GOD vanishes).

A year passes GOD does not return, meanwhile seeing the plight of this person, ever roaming saint Narada appears and asks what happened.

Person tells the whole story.

Narada: Oh! O, dear! When GOD says 1 minute it is equal to 100 years of Earth time. I am sorry, instead of waiting, better start all over again! good luck and he too vanishes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two neighbours ( N1& N2) ever competing with each other on every small and big things in their lives decide to call upon the GOD.

So the great penance starts, after 25 long years of penance, GOD appears before the first neighbour N1.

GOD: Hello dear! Let me know why you called me!

N1: Well I want many things but I would like you to do me a favour.

GOD: Ok! What is it.

N1: Are you going to answer my neighbours call also.

GOD: O' Yes, sure.

N1: Will it be possible if you find out what he is asking.

GOD: No problemo.

GOD appears before the other neighbour ( N2)

GOD: Hello dear, let me know why you called me!

N2: Thanks for coming, my lord! before I ask I would like to know what my Neighbour is asking, GOD says OK.

GOD returns to N1, like this GOD moves up and down for a couple of times, finally GOD is tired, I am sorry if you do not ask for anything, I am going, I have others calling.

N1: OK, Give me everything double the quantity of what ever N2 will ask.

GOD: Tathastu! ( Meaning, so be it).

God goes to N2 for the last time.

GOD: OK ask what do you want.

N2 is a persistent fellow, please let me know what did the N1 ask.

GOD: Oh my GOD! Ok, he wants everything two times of what ever you are going to ask.

N2: Ok! then cut my one hand, one leg, one ear and one eye.

GOD: Tathastu! and he leaves with a heavy heart, complaining, Why did I make Humans.

A person in Europe is looking for GOD, he asks a saint, the saint points at a Telephone booth.
The person pick up the phone and calls a number written on the wall" God's PRIVATE NUMBER, please dial 011 before the no and it is a long distance call.
The person disconnects and travels to North America, even there he finds a Telephone booth with same no and same instructions, again it is a long distance call.
The person travels to China, Japan, Australia, Arctic, Antarctica, Middle east every where he finds the same telephone booth with same instructions and it is always a long distance call.
Finally he decides to travel to India and looks around for that telephone booth and he finds it with the same no, but as he dials the number, the recorded message says, please do not dial o11 before the number, it is a local call from here.;-)

Line of Apollo or Sun

ॐ श्री गुरावे नमः !
ॐ नमः शिवाय!

The last line which is considered by me as a major line is the line of Apollo or Sun, sandwiched between the line of health of life and the fate line or line of destiny, this line is present in almost every hand but the length varies from 1 mm to almost covering the length of the palm, many palmists call this line a minor line and also believe that it has to do with the artistic talents of a native.

The line of Apollo Fig P7A2 signifies the fame and popularity of a native in social circles, more popular one is more prominent the line will be, the best example is Mahatma Gandhi, the line covered the full length of the palm, emerging from the base of the palm next to the Fate line and reaching the base of the Ring finger or the Mount of Sun Fig P7A2, If the mount is well placed with a prominent line of Apollo, suggests that the native is a great personality well known in the Earth family, e.g. Mahatma Gandhi ( M.K.Gandhi).

The majority population busy accumulating wealth, working for their growth and they do get some popularity and fame in their local circles in their late life, will have a very small 1 to 2 cm line Fig P7A1 starting from the line of Heart and ending into the mount of Sun, more successful will have couple of parallel lines Fig P7A3, still more successful will have a whorl in the mount of Sun in addition to the small line of Apollo Fig P7A4, but these people are ordinary people living a private life but due to their Job or business they are known in their local circles but they are hardly known outside these circles. The small line Fig P7A1 is present in almost every person who is above 50 years, because almost every individual gets some popularity by the time they retire at least in their immediate circles.

The line appears and disappears based on the popularity of the native, most people do not have this line, because they are not known at all, and they have never tried to put themselves in the limelight, the energy required for such an endeavour does not flow in to their systems so no channels (lines) to facilitate the flow of such an energy, to be famous is a desire of the soul, and the soul motivates the mind to direct the body in that direction to fulfill the desire, if no such desire resides with the soul the native will never try to go into that direction.

The complete and full line indicating a world personality is present in almost every well known person, but here there is a hitch, if this popularity comes because the native is pulled into the limelight by force, the line may be very thin and wavering, but if the fame and popularity is because of the natives desire, the line will be complete and healthy.

Joke:

A boy falls in a river and is almost drowned then suddenly a person jumps into the river and saves the boy, everyone around pat the back of the stranger, bravo! bravo! bravo!. The government awards him the medal of Bravery.

The stranger shouts" OK, Thanks! but who pushed me! :-)

If this line starts as a influence line starting from the mount of Venus and and takes a upward direction just below the Ring finger and reaches the Mount of Sun Fig P7A5 & P7A6, this would mean that the Fame and popularity is awarded to the native by a family member or due to the family member, and if such a line starts from the mount of moon FigP7A5 then the Fame and popularity is awarded by a person from the external social circles, some time the influence line starting from the upper mars mount takes the form of line of Apollo, this indicates that the native become famous and popular due his/her fathers efforts or family lineage Fig P7A6.

Instead of "Famous and popular", the most apt and suitable word one should use is "Aishwaryam or Aishwarya", which means Wealth, Money, Fame, Popularity, Property, love, affections and Goddess Laxmi's blessings, this kind of boon is given by only Graha ( Planet or Star) Surya or Sun, the quantum of Aishwarya one would get is determined by the line of Apollo or Sun.

Let us deal with the so called Artistic talents as many believe, imagine that a native is endowed with excellent artistic talents but he is not known to the world like Pablo Picasso, the native is supposed to have a complete line of Apollo and all those students of all the schools of Arts are also supposed to have the line of Apollo in its complete form, but in reality the scenario is totally different, all those students of all the schools of Arts though are endowed with the Artistic talents in some or other form, might have the line of Apollo or not depending on the desire to become famous and popular in their field of Arts, but the actual line of Apollo will only manifest itself when the native will push himself in this direction and ultimately will become famous and popular like Pablo Picasso, so this line has to do more with the "Aishwaryam", then just with the Artistic talents, abilities are important but not all able people are famous and popular.:-)

The Heart Surgeon & The Mechanic

A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.

The mechanic shouted across the garage,” Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute."

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one.

So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work? "

The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic....

..He said:

"Try to do it when the engine is running ".

Where is GOD?

WHERE IS GOD :

Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are excessively mischievous. They always get into trouble and their parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved.
The boys' mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually. So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.

The preacher, a huge man with a booming voice, made the the younger boy sit down and asked him sternly,"Do you know where God is, son?"
The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open. So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?!"Again, the boy made no attempt to answer.
The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed,"Where is God?!"The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "what happened?"

The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in a BIG trouble this time."

The Line of Health of Life

ॐ श्री गुरावे नमः !

The line of Health of Life: Fig P6A1

The Six Main/Chief/Primary lines i.e. The line of fate, line of intelligence, heart line, the life line, now the line of health of life and later the line of Apollo or Sun.

The line of health of life:Line of Health or Line of Business as it is commonly known but I call it as Line of Health of Life, it is a secondary line for many palmists, not very common, it is present in many hands and totally absent from many hands, and this line is shrouded in cobwebs because many people have many views about this line, but let us read it the way one should, with out any inclinations to the preconceived notions.

The origin of this line can be from anywhere from the line of life to the fate line or away from the two mainlines, from the mount of moon or Luna (Fig P6A5), but this line always reaches for the little finger or the mount of mercury (Fig P6A2) present below the little finger, many people believe that this line tells us about the business acumen of the native, some believe it has to do with the health of the native, some believe it is a line which should not be present in a hand.

My personal experience, I have this line well marked emerging from the fate line and reaching into the mount of mercury, this line shows breaks when ever I am low on finance or in debt, it remains unchanged irrespective of my health, yes it changes when ever I changed jobs, whenever I got involved in multiple jobs or income generating activities, I have seen multiple parallel lines all flowing towards the mount of mercury, the length depends on the length of time devoted to such an activity, or if a proposition of business/Job/Income generating any activity lingers around you, the line remains prominent and also it indicates the future of such an endeavour.

I have seen and not seen this line in the hands of many people working for themselves or others, so this line does not indicate just the job or business, it is present in the students also who are dependent on their parents for their daily financial requirements, it is present or absent in people suffering or not suffering with some or other ailments or not, so what exactly is this line for?

The line is begins from the fate line (Fig P6A2)/mount of moon (Fig P6A1)/ or in rare cases from life line (Fig P6A3), it has to do with basic life and status of mind, or the direction the mind is tuned in to, then this line always flows towards the mount of mercury, mercury is the center of communication, business, financial investments, shares, it basically indicates if your life is green or not, or if the life is to a lawn, the Mercury is to green grass, if Mercury is well placed, then the grass in your lawn of life will be green and in abundance, if Mercury is not well placed then the lawn is dry and barren, so this line has to do with health of the life of the native, and it should be appropriately called as Line of Health of Life and hence it is a Major/Primary line.

So, the line of health of life indicates the quality of greenery in your lawn of life, now most people who are earning may have this line or might not have this line, presence of this line would indicate that the lawn is green with those earnings, i.e. income is more than expenditure hence some storage, absence would mean income is less than expenditure hence no storage, similarly people involved in business may have this line or might not have this line, if the natives business is doing fine the line will be well marked and without any breaks (Fig P6A6) or signs etc but if it is not well then the line might me totally absent or one or few broken lines might be present, again, the number of lines (Fig P6A4) would indicate the numbers of different activities, e.g. One of my friend was involved in making tools, boat selling, home repairs etc, so he had three lines of various lengths and quality, the business or the activity that he stopped, the related line also stopped growing in his hand, The one he has been doing for a long time and is still involved in it, the main line remained intact, The business in which he lost money, the related line showed break and cross.

The line of Health of Life basically signifies, communication skills, business ability or acumen, earning capacity, earning and spending habits, well being of Mercury, physical and mental health one interesting point worth noting is, the line of health of life flows through the Mars defensive mount, Mars generally denotes aggressive action but this mount denotes defensive actions, if the line of health of life stops near this mount the native needs to check his attitude with His/Her clients/colleagues/relatives/friends/family members etc. it is to check if any of these spheres of life are suffering because of this attitude, I will not say that it is very easy to change it, like a ON/OFF switch, but the cause for such an attitude buildup is always people, best way to bring a change is stay away from those people, again it is easy if they are people from external circles, it becomes very difficult to bring that change if they are your immediate family.

As we have seen this line has to do with the health of your finances, your income, your wealth, your earning power, your earning capacity, your relations, your social relations, your family support, their emotional or financial support, your abilities, this line if absent, means native is living a very ordinary life and is not exerting himself/herself for accumulating wealth and property etc, in a way he/she waits for his/her turn because the mind is not tuned in this direction and Mercury is also neutral, Income -spending = 0, and this line is very prominent and active in people who are very active and are in a kind of mad rush for accumulating wealth and money for their future generations, Income -spending = x balance, any breaks in this line would strongly suggest break in the flow of income or finance and other social factors are always the cause for such a break, if the break is due to personal and relational activity the fate line at the same time frame will also register a break, but if the break is due to health of body, mind and soul, then the life line, fate line, the line of heart and intelligence might also register a break at the same time frame.

If you do not have this line, do not worry, live your life, but yes if you are involved in some business/money generating activity through personal steam and the line is missing, then check if the business is run by you or you are just a secondary partner or a passenger, or you might lack initiative or direct involvement, vice verse if the line is present and you are not involved in any such activities, may be it is time you should look at your finances and think about starting something of your own. :-)

A multiple line patch( Fig P6A5) near the mount of mercury is enough to replace the line of heath of life, so in many people a fine multiple line patch near the mount of Mercury should denote all the properties explained for the line of health of life and it also suggests success in such any endeavour.

A well formed line of health of life and a well placed Mercury mount, multiple line patch and the line emerging from the Mount of luna would mean the Mind, body and soul are all in tandem for successful activities, if the line begins from line of fate then it is your personal initiative that will make it happen, and from the line of life start would suggest your family support or a ready made estabilishment waits for your involvement.

So check your hand and line, make plans.

More to follow.....................line of Apollo or Sun.

Fundamentals of Jyotisha (Vedic Astrology) Part III

ॐ श्री गुरावे नमः !

GRAHA/PLANETS characteristics and description

Graha, (Planets as they are normally called) are cosmic entities and represent Lord Vishnu’s incarnations, which have the capacity to influence any living thing through other living things on this earth plane, Table 17 lists all the Lord Vishnu’s Avataras (Incarnations).

The moment a living thing takes birth, The hour, minutes, seconds and the Graha situation of that moment is drawn as a equation and deposited in the account of that native, the native’s physical and mental faculties develop based on this equation, the Rising sign has the maximum influence on the native and based on that equation native gets his/her shape, size, abilities or deficiencies, but the Graha as they are in continuous motion, influence the native almost every moment based on their position generally called as Gochara/Transits,
Therefore, the basic point one has to understand is that there are two levels.

First the basic Graha Equation at the time of birth, the natal chart.

Second the Gochara/Transits (The current position of Graha using the native’s configuration)

We will deal with this when I will take up analysis of the Chart in one of my future posts.

Graha/Planet: Parameters pertaining to the Graha and their characteristics.

Lagna is the most important point in the horoscope; it is the Rasi/zodiac sign that rises in the East, on the latitude of birth. The apparent rising of a Rasi is due to the rotation of the earth on its own axis, causing every degree of the zodiac seemingly ascends on the eastern horizon, approximately, every two hours one Rasi passes via the horizon, i.e. every degree taking 4 minutes to ascend and this duration is based on the concerned latitude.

Shubha Graha/Benefics/Krura Graha/malefics: Each Graha can be classified as Benefic if it gives beneficial phala/result or, as a malefic if it gives negative or malefic effect, Table no 18 lists the Graha’s as Benefics or Malefics.

Note: A natural Benefic Graha is supposed to be always delivering beneficial phala or result to the Native and the Krura (Malefic) Graha’s always the malefic effect, but this is not actually true, many factors influence this property of the Graha’s,

Like position of the Graha, the number of the House it is posited in, the mutual relationship with other Graha posited with it, mutual Drishti, Avastha and strength of the Graha etc.

Table no 19 lists some of the important characteristics of Graha’s starting from the Surya (Sun) to Sani (Saturn), the list shows the main governance of each Graha, in the human body, time scale, taste, trees, fabric, seasons, and the main abode.

The governances listed in the Table no 19 suggest the characters of the Native also, meaning the Native ruled by particular Graha/Planet will have the same characteristics in his way of living, his/her choice of color, place, taste, materials, and physical and mental attributes etc.

Further the table no 20 lists remaining characteristics of the Graha like status, complexion, ruling deity, sex of the Graha, element, social status, nature, eyes, shape of the body, habits, quality of brain, and other features.

The characteristics listed in the Table no 19 and 20 are for reference purpose whenever a native needs to be described for his/her characteristics, physical and mental attributes, the above given characteristics come very handy.

Graha/Planets and their Strengths: Basically, strength here means the ability to bring an effect it could be positive or negative, the natural order of planets based on there natural strengths is: Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Shukra (Venus), Guru (Jupiter), Budh ( Mercury), Mangal (Mars)and Sani (Saturn) in decreasing order.

Further to the natural strength of the Graha’s, the Avasthas of the Graha’s is most important, Avastha is to see the situation of the Graha/Planet, is it a infant?, young or is it too old, is it ashamed or proud etc. It tells us the State and condition of the Graha/Planet and based on the condition of the Graha/Planet the Phala/Result can be explained. There are two sets of Avasthas, the second set of Avasthas i.e. Shayan Adi Avasthas is most important and should be considered to make predictions regarding strength etc. Table no 22, 23 and 24 lists all the types of Avasthas and their level of Phala/Result.
Rule 1: In case of odd Rasi’s the order starts with Baal to Mrit (Dead) and in case of even Rasi’s the order is from Vriddh (Old) to Baal.

Rule 2: Estimate the effects due to a Bhava, after ascertaining the strength and weakness, weak Grahas cause reduction in good effects, while stronger ones give greater effects. If a Graha, posited in Karm Bhava, is in Lajjit, Kshudhit Avastha, or Kshobhit Avastha, the person will always be subjected to miseries. If a Graha in Putra bhava is in Lajjit Avastha, the progeny will be destroyed or only one child will survive. The spouse of the native will pass away if there is a Graha in Yuvati bhava and is in Kshobhit, or in Trushit Avastha.
Rule 3: A Garvit Graha will cause happiness through new houses and gardens, regal hood, skill in arts, financial gains at all times and improvement in business.
A Mudit Graha will give residences, clothes, ornaments, happiness from lands and wife, happiness from relatives, living in royal places, destruction of enemies and acquisition of wisdom and learning.

A Lajjit Graha will give aversion to God, loss of intelligence, loss of child, interest in evil speeches and listlessness in good things.
A Kshobhit Graha will give acute penury, evil disposition, miseries, financial debacles, distress to feet and obstruction to income, due to royal wrath.
Kshudhit Graha will cause downfall, due to grief and passion, grief because of relatives, physical decline, troubles from enemies, financial distress, loss of physical strength and an eclipsed mind, due to miseries.

A Trushit Graha will cause diseases through association with females, leading over wicked deeds, loss of wealth, due to one’s own men, physical weakness, miseries, caused by evil people and decline of honor.

Shayan Adi Avasthas:

Calculation of Shayan Adi Avasthas: Multiply the number of the Star occupied by the Graha being calculated by the number denoted by the Graha (Surya 1 to Sani 7). Multiply the obtained figure with the number of the Navamsa of the Graha. Add to this the number of the birth asterism (Ruling star, the one, occupied by Chandra), the number of Ghatis of birth and the number of Rasi’s, The Lagna gained from Mesh (Mesh 1, Vrishabha 2 and so forth). This figure should be divided by 12 and the remainder will indicate the corresponding Avastha of the Graha.

The sub-states ( Drishti, Chesht and Vichesht) in the said Avastha can be found out in the following way. Multiply the figure (Shayan 1 to Nidr 12), denoted by the Avastha concerned, by the same figure and increase it by the figure, denoted by the Anka value for the first syllable of the native’s personal name. Divide the product so obtained by 12. The remainder there of should be further increased by constant additives of the Grahas in the following way: Surya 5, Chandra 2, Mangal 2, Budh 3, Guru 5, Shukra 3, Sani 3, Rahu (Ketu) 4. The product so arrived at should be divided by 3. In the process of calculation, if it happens, that the remainder is one, it is Drishti, if two, it is Chesht and, if zero, it is Vichesht.

All the Shayan Adi Avasthas are discussed in detail from Table no 25 to 36, each Graha and its effects in each situation is listed in the said tables. If Surya is in Upavesan Avastha the native will be an artisan, dark in complexion, devoid of learning and miserable. One will serve others.

Should Mangal be in Upavesan in Lagna, the native will be extremely sinful and he will incur several diseases, will be indigent and not peaceful. If Upavesan occurs for Mangal in Dharma, the native will lose his whole wealth apart from his wife and progeny, If in Netrapani there will be all kinds of happiness.

If Surya is in Putra, Dharma, Karma, or Yuvati. In other bhavas Netrapani of Surya will give eye diseases and enmity with all. Mangal in Netrapani in Lagn will give poverty and will destroy the native’s wife and progeny; if Mangal is in Netrapani in other bhavas, this confers on the native all kinds of wealth and happiness from wife and children. The Dhana or Yuvati position of Mangal in Netrapani will cause fear from lions and snakes apart from giving earnings from lands. Furthermore, the native’s wife will predecease him.

Table no 26 and 27 list all the Graha’s and their effects if in Upavesan and Netrapani Avastha respectively.

If Surya is in Prakash Avastha, the native will be meritorious, religious and liberal, will enjoy pleasures, be equal to a prince and will enjoy the status of Kubera, the God of wealth. However, the Prakash Avastha of Surya, placed in Yuvati bhava, or Putra bhava will cause loss of the first child and will produce many litigations. Should Mangal be in Prakash in Putra, or in Yuvati, the native would lose his wife and all children. If Mangal is placed in Putra in Prakash and is yuti with Sani, the native will kill cows.

If Surya is in Gaman Avastha, the native will incur diseases of the feet and will be very mean. Should Mangal be in Gaman in Lagna, the native will be active in his assignments, will incur diseases of the joints, burning pains in the eyes and will obtain dental afflictions and the like, he will have fear from dogs and will adore the guise of a female. In other Bhavas Mangal in Gaman will bring royal favors, leadership and luxuries of life.

If in Agaman Avastha, Surya in Vyaya bhava or in Yuvati bhava will destroy progeny and will give very limited wealth. Mangal in Agaman will cause piles and diseases of the rectum.

If in Agam Avastha, Surya will give many miseries, an ugly appearance and foolishness. However, he will give wealth. Surya in Bhojan Avastha in Dharma bhava will cause many hindrances to spiritual and religious undertakings. In other bhava’s Surya in Bhojan Avastha will cause head and ear diseases, apart from joint pains. If Mangal is in Bhojan, or in Shayan in Putra or in Randhra, there will be premature death for the native. In other bhava’s Bhojan Avastha of Mangal will confer wealth.

Surya in Kautuk Avastha will have fear from enemies, Surya in Kautuk in other Bhavas will number of daughters, two wives, itch, excellence, liberality etc.
Should Mangal be in Nritya Lips and happens to be in Lagna, Dhana, Yuvati, or Karma, the native will receive all kinds of happiness; there will be miseries in abundance, if Mangal is in Nritya Lips and placed in Randhra or Dharma apart from incurring untimely death. In other Bhavas Nritya Lips of Mangal will make the native akin to Kubera. Mangal in Yuvati or in Dharma in Kautuk will give several diseases and death of the first child and wife. In other bhavas Kautuk will confer scholarship, various kinds of wealth, two wives and more female children.

If Surya is in Nidr Avastha, the native will be predisposed to incur piles and elephantiasis, will experience a lack of peace and he is liable to lose his first child. In Nidr Mangal in Lagn, Dhana, Sahaj, Dharma, Karm, or Labh will give scholarship, foolishness and poverty. Putra or Yuvati placement of Mangal in Nidr will give many miseries and many male children. Should Rahu join Mangal in Nidr in any bhava, the native will have many wives, be miserable and will.

Rule 4. If a benefic Graha is in Shayan, there will be benefic effects at all times.
If a malefic is in Bhojan, everything will be destroyed.
Should a malefic in Yuvati be in Nidr Avastha, auspicious effects will follow, provided, that there is no Drishti from another malefic.
Premature death, due to royal wrath, will happen, if there is a malefic in Randhra bhava in Nidr, or in Shayan Avastha.
If in the case of a malefic in Randhra Bhava in Nidr, or Shayan there happens to be a benefic Drishti, or the Yuti (conjoined) of a benefic, (untimely) death will be in the river Ganges, i.e. Gangetic belt, shrines etc.
If there is a malefic in Karma bhava in Shayan, or Bhojan, the native will face many miseries because of his own deeds.
O excellent of the Brahmins, doubtlessly a Raj Yoga will come to pass, if Chandra is in Karma bhava in Kautuk, or Prakash Avastha.
Thus, the good and bad effects should be guessed, assessing the strength and weakness of the Grahas, concerning all the Bhavas.

Graha/Planets and mutual relationships and behavior
Planets like human beings have friendship, enmity and neutral relationships with each other. The relationship is of two types, Permanent and Temporary. By friendship and enmity we mean that the rays of one Graha will be intensified or countered by the other Graha.
Natural Relationships. Note the Rasi’s, which are the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 12th from the Moolatrikona of a Graha. The Grahas ruling such Rasi’s are its friends, apart from the Lord of its exaltation Rasi. Lords other than these are its enemies. If a Graha becomes its friend as well, as its enemy (because of the said two computations), then it is neutral, or equal.
Temporary Relationships. The Graha, posited in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, or the 12th from another, becomes a mutual friend. There is enmity otherwise. (This applies to a given Horoscope/Janm Kundali).

The final compound relation ship should be deduced based on the following table no 38.

Ratio of Effects: A Graha in exaltation gives fully good effects, while in Moolatrikona it is bereft of its auspicious effects by one fourth. It is half-beneficial in its own Bhava. Its beneficence is one fourth in a friendly Rasi. In an equal’s Rasi, one eighth of auspicious disposition is useful. The good effects are nil in debilitation, or enemy’s camp. Inauspicious effects are quite reverse with reference to what is stated.

Non-luminous Upa-Grahas (Sub-Grahas/ Sub-Planets).

To calculate the position of Sub-Graha’s:

Add 4 Rasis 13 degrees and 20 minutes of arc to Surya’s longitude at a given moment to get the exact position of the all-inauspicious Dhoomketu.
Reduce Dhooma Ketu from 12 Rasis to arrive at Vyatipat, Vyatipat is also inauspicious.
Add six Rasis to Vyatipata to know the position of Parivesh. He is extremely inauspicious.
Deduct Parivesh from 12 Rasis to arrive at the position of Chap (Indra Dhanus), who is also inauspicious.
Add 16 degrees 40 minutes to Chap, which will give Ketu (Upa Ketu), who is a malefic.
By adding a Rasi to Upa Ketu, you get the original longitude of Surya. These are the Grahas, devoid of splendor, which are malefics by nature and cause affliction.

Rule 5: Effects of Sub-Grahas. If one of these afflicts Surya, the native’s dynasty will decline, while Chandra and Lagna, respectively, associated with one of these, will destroy the longevity and wisdom. So declared Lord Brahma, the Lotus-Born.

Calculations of Gulik and other Kalavelas.

The portions of Surya etc. up to Sani denote the periods of Gulik and others. Divide the day duration (of any weekday) into eight equal parts. The eighth portion is Lord-less. The seven portions are distributed to the seven Grahas commencing from the Lord of the weekday. Whichever portion is ruled by Sani, will be the portion of Gulik. Similarly make the night duration into eight equal parts and distribute these, commencing from the Lord of the 5th (by) week. Here again, the eighth portion is Lord-less, while Sani’s portion is Gulik. Surya’s portion is Kaala, Mangal’s portion is MR^ityu, Guru’s portion is Yamaghantak and Budh’s portion is Ardhaprahar. These durations differently apply to different places (commensurate with variable day and night durations).

Gulik’s Position. The degree, ascending at the time of start of Gulik’s portion (as above), will be the longitude of Gulik at a given place. Based on this longitude only, Gulik’s effects for a particular nativity be estimated.

Calculation of Pranapad.
Convert the given time into Vighatis and divide the same by 15. The resultant Rasi, degrees etc. be added to Surya, if he is in a Movable Rasi, which will yield Pranapad. If Surya is in a Fixed Rasi, add 240 degrees additionally and, if in a Dual Rasi, add 120 degrees in addition to get Pranapad. The birth will be auspicious, if Pranapad falls in the 2nd, 5th, 9th, 4th, 10th, or 11th from the natal Lagna. In other, Bhavas Pranapad indicates an inauspicious birth.
Ardhaprahar, Yamaghantak, MR^ityu, Kaala and Gulik are the 5 Kalavelas, suggested by Maharishi Parasara. The day duration, according to altitude, is divided into eight equal parts. The eighth portion is without any lord. The first portion is allotted to the weekday Lord. Other portions follow in the order of weekday Lords. We consider five portions of Grahas, ignoring that of Chandra and Shukra. The portions of Surya, Mangal, Budh, Guru and Sani are, respectively, called Kaala, MR^ityu, Ardhaprahar, Yamaghantak and Gulik.
In case of night, the durations or 1/8th parts are allotted in a different order. The first portion goes to the Graha, ruling the 5th weekday Lord, counted from the day in question. The others follow in the usual order. Here again, the 8th part is without any lord. The portions of Grahas from Kaala to Gulik are the same in nomenclature in the night also.
Out of the 5 Kalavelas, viz. Gulik etc., four except Kaala (related to Surya) have their own Rasi system in the respective Rasis, ruled by their fathers. Gulik, son of Sani, has Kumbha, as his own Bhava. Guru’s son, Yamaghantak, has it in Dhanus. Ardhaprahar, Budh’s son, is in own Rasi, if in Mithuna. MR^ityu, son of Mangal, has Vrishchika, as own Bhava. It is not known, why Kaala, a son of Surya shifted to Makara, a Rasi of his brother (Sani), leaving his father’s Simha. Obviously, Sani has given his Moolatrikona to his son Gulik, while he gave Makara (a secondary Rasi) to his ‘brother’ Kaala.

People without any Indian tongue will have little difficulty pronouncing and understanding the natural meaning of these terms, for an Indian born most of the terms should be part of their daily language. sorry, you have get used to them, if you want to understand the actual meaning.
